Champions St Mirren will do ‘the right thing’ by fielding a strong team against the Bairns

- By CRAIG STEWART

St Mirren take to the field for the first time since winning the Championship at the weekend when they host a Falkirk side still needing a positive result to avoid finishing second bottom.

The Saints will make changes to their line-up after Saturday’s goalless draw with Livingston. Assistant manager James Fowler said: “We will freshen things up as it has been an intense month but when we were fighting against relegation last year we knew that the integrity of the teams in the league mattered.

“That will be the case with us and we will be sending out a team strong enough to win.”

Falkirk boss Paul Hartley, right, does not see staying safe as something that will make him smile. He said: “St Mirren will be on a high and we are not safe yet so it will be a tough game. Even if we get the result that keeps us safe we will not be celebrating.”

Dundee United can take another step closer to ensuring that they will be in the promotion play-offs by seeing off bottom side Brechin City and manager Csaba Laszlo reckons that confidence is coming into his team at the right time. Laszlo said: “We have beaten St Mirren and Falkirk to make it two wins in a row for the first time since December and we can go to Brechin with increased confidence. We are playing well and creating chances with my only criticism being that we are not scoring enough goals.

“Hopefully we can change that.”

Brechin City may be enduring a miserably winless relegated season that has amassed just four points, but man-

ager Darren Dods wants his players to play with smiles on their faces.

Dods said: “Of course our players’ heads have gone down a couple of times but I will remind them that this is a great game to be involved in and one to be enjoyed.

“Next season we will not be facing big names like Dundee United and will be playing in front of crowds of 500600 so we should go out and savour it.”

Inverness Caledonian Thistle travel to Dumbarton and manager John Robertson is looking for his men to continue their winning form after Saturday’s 5-1 home win over the Sons made it four wins in a row.

Robertson said: “I told the players that we needed to win our final eight games to get into the play-offs. We are half-way there and belief is growing.”

Second-bottom place and a place in the play-offs will be Dumbarton’s if they fail to beat Caley.

Dumbarton boss Stephen Aitken said: “It is a big ask as we could not fill the bench on Saturday due to the injuries but I am sure the guys will go out again and give everything.”
