Mundell in talks to save threatened seafood plant

- By CATRIONA WEBSTTER

Scottish Secretary David Mundell is to meet with key figures as efforts to save the closure-threatened Pinneys seafood factory continue.

Young’s Seafood has announced plans to shut down the site in Annan, Dumfries and Galloway, putting 450 jobs at risk.

Mr Mundell will meet with Young’s chief executive Bill Showalter to urge him to reconsider the move, and with Dumfries and Galloway Council chief executive Gavin Stevenson to discuss potential UK government support.

He said: “The loss of so many jobs would be a tragedy for Annan, as well as the wider Dumfries and Galloway area.

“The workforce – and indeed the whole community – have made tremendous efforts to fight the closure and keep the issue at the top of the agenda.”
