Promised land

-

In his analysis of the Scottish independence debate (Letters, 18 April), Iain Forde readily dismisses the majority that prefer to remain in the UK as “those that think everything is fine and does not need to change”.

How stupid we would all be if there were any truth in his claim. Yet I have yet to come across a single person in Scotland that actually believes what he accuses us of. Wanting Scotland to remain in the UK does not require a view that all is perfect, nor does it imply opposition to the need for continuing to progress and improve.

Of course it plays well to a nationalist claim to the moral high ground on all matters, to suggest the rest of us have our heads firmly buried in the sand, while only the SNP and the Greens have as Mr Forde seems to imply, the “principles”, “reasonable ideas” and “common sense” to imagine the promised land.
