Creating another world: Fictional medieval ‘city of women’ takes over Tramway gallery space
Artist Tai Shani has created a vast art installation inspired by the 15th century “protofeminist” text, The Book of the City of Ladies, for Glasgow’s Tramway arts centre.
Twelve performers will play characters including The Neanderthal Hermaphrodite, The Medieval Mystic, The Vampyre, and Paradise, in a three days how during the Glasgow International art festival.
A 12-part performance series, which is said to depict an allegorical city of women, will be drawing on feminist science fiction, post-modern architecture, and feminist and queer theory.
