Moses goal dents Clarets’ hopes of promised land

- By WILL JACKSON

Partick Thistle boss Alan Archibald hopes to give John Lambie a deserved send-off after the club announced yesterday that the North Stand at Firhill will be named after their late manager.

There will be a minute’s applause for Lambie, who died this month, before tomorrow’s match against Hamilton – another of his former clubs – and Archibald says the renaming is well-deserved after his impact at the club.

“It is a fantastic tribute for John and his family,” said the Jags boss. “They will be here at the weekend and hopefully we can give him a good send-off.”

Lambie had two spells in charge of Hamilton and four as Thistle boss, leading Accies to the top flight in 1986 and the Jags to three promotions, and was in charge when Archibald was a player at Firhill.

Archibald said: “Two of his former clubs will be coming together and hopefully give him a good send-off. He worked miracles at this football club and probably at Hamilton too.

“To get back-to-back promotions and keep the team in the league as well was a fantastic achievement and he didn’t always get the plaudits he deserved from the football side of it.”

Chairman David Beattie said: “Given his contribution to the club during four separate spells in charge, we are unlikely to ever see John’s like again.

“It is a fitting and lasting tribute to someone who has had a more positive impact on the Jags than almost anyone else in the club’s history.”

Lambie’s family added: “It means so much to us – and we know how much it would mean to him.

“We would like to thank everyone, from fans to the club and the wider football family, for their love, support and friendship in the last few difficult weeks.”
