- By CONOR RIORDAN

A woman was sexually assaulted in broad daylight by a man who had been hiding behind bushes in Glasgow.

The incident happened about noon on Thursday near Rotherwood Avenue in Knightswood at the Forth and Clyde Canal.

She was walking from Westerton rail station along the path when a man came out from behind some bushes and sexually assaulted her.

The 25-year-old managed to escape uninjured.

Detective Sergeant Stephen Mcgrath, from Govan police office, said: “Although she got away uninjured, this was a terrifying attack, which has left the young woman extremely shaken.

“We are appealing to anyone who uses this canal path and may have information that can help us in our enquiries to come forward and contact us.

“It is used widely by dog walkers, cyclists, runners and pedestrians.

“We would ask you to think back. Have you seen anyone acting suspiciously in this area, either on Thursday or in the weeks leading up to it? “We urge you to let us know.” The suspect was wearing all dark clothing and had a local accent.

Officers urged anyone with information to contact police on 101 or anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
