Red carpet arrival: Macron hails ‘great honour’ as he heads to the US to meet Trump

French president Emmanuel Macron and his wife Brigitte arrive at Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland at the start of a state visit to the United States.

The French leader has called the visit a “great honor.” It is his first trip to Washington since his election last year.

President Trump and first lady Melania Trump were due to take President Macron and his wife to dinner last night at Mount Vernon, George Washington’s home on the Potomac River. Today at the White House, President Macron will be treated to a military arrival ceremony and a state dinner with nearly 150 guests.
