Stenhousemuir eye play-off place

- By CRAIG P STEWART

Stenhousemuir can move up to third place in League 2 and finally secure a play-off place if they defeat hosts Berwick Rangers tonight.

The Warriors blew the chance to confirm an extension to their season when they lost 2-0 at home to champions-elect Montrose on Saturday after going two goals down in just eight minutes.

Brown Ferguson’s side will be facing a frantic final day if they do not pick up all three points tonight. The Ochilview manager said: “Saturday was disappointing but we have to remember that things are still in our hands. We are a point ahead of Clyde and have the chance to make that four and also be ahead of Stirling before facing them at the weekend. If we are to win at Berwick then we have to start properly as we lost Saturday’s game in the early stages.”

Nathan Blockley, Martin Scott and Mark Mcguigan remain out injured for Stenhousemuir.

Berwick’s 1-0 victory over Cowdenbeath on Saturday was their first home win of 2018 and manager Robbie Horn is keen to add a second.

“It was good to get a home win and climb the table,” Horn said. “Now that we have tasted winning at home again we want to do it again and get the result that means we finish above Edinburgh City.”

Youngster Paul Simpson looks set to get his chance after impressing in Berwick’s under-20 team but goalkeeper Robby Mccrorie, Steve Notman and Keiran Stewart are all injury doubts and Ouzy See is ruled out.
