Corbyn meeting a ‘missed opportunity’
Leaders of Britain’s Jewish community have said their meeting with Jeremy Corbyn last night was a “disappointing missed opportunity” to tackle the problem of anti-semitism in the Labour Party.
In a joint statement, the Board of Deputies and the Jewish Leadership Council said the Labour leader had failed to sign up to any of the concrete actions which they asked for following last month’s protest against anti-semitism outside Parliament.
“Our meeting with Jeremy Corbyn was a disappointing missed opportunity regarding the problem of anti-semitism in the Labour Party,” the statement said. “We welcomed Mr Corbyn’s personal involvement in the discussion and his new comments recognising and apologising for antisemitism in the Labour Party but he failed to agree to any of the concrete actions we asked for in our letter to him.”
