Police step up patrols after shots fired at house from a passing car

● East end street witnesses violence for second time in recent weeks

- By CHRIS MCCALL

Shots were fired at an upstairs window of a Glasgow house in the latest gun drama to rock the city in recent weeks.

Officers were called out at around 10:20pm on Monday following reports of gun shots heard in Millroad Drive, a culde-sac in the east end district of Calton.

No-one was injured in the incident but police described family members as being left “badly shaken”.

It is the second time in the space of a month the residential street close to Glasgow Green has been rocked by a violent incident, in what police believe is the escalation of a dispute between rival gangs involved in drug dealing.

Officers are now appealing for information relating to Monday’s shooting.

A white car, possibly a Volkswagen, pulled up outside a house and someone inside the car shot at one of the windows.

Officers have been carrying out door-to-door inquiries and have gathered CCTV footage which is being reviewed.

There is currently no description of the occupants of the car and it is unknown how many people were in the vehicle.

Inquiries carried out so far have revealed the shooting was not random and was a targeted incident.

0 Police officers remained at the scene of the shooting in the east end district of Calton on Tuesday morning and it’s imperative we trace the occupants of the white car.

“We understand the car was in Millroad Drive prior to the shooting taking place and I am appealing to the local community to think back and consider if they saw the car or noticed anything about the occupants.

“Any piece of information could prove crucial in helping us locate whoever is responsible for this crime.”

He added: “We’re aware that this incident will be of some concern to local residents and I would like to reassure them that additional police officers will be in the area. Anyone with concerns can approach these officers.”

Glasgow has been the scene of several high-profile firearms incidents in recent months.

A murder investigation is continuing after Kenny Reilly, 29, was shot dead at traffic lights in the Ruchill area of the city during the evening of 16 April.
