Law firm wins legal advice contract with pensions specialist

- By EMMA NEWLANDS

Law firm Morton Fraser has been appointed provider of legal services in Scotland for what it calls a “highly respected” self-invested personal pension (Sipp) provider.

The agreement will see Morton Fraser’s dedicated “property in pensions” team, which it says is the largest of its kind in Scotland, sit on the panel of solicitors for Rowanmoor, part of the Embark Group, and provide commercial real estate legal advice for Sipps in Scotland.

Fergus Mcdiarmid, partner and property in pensions team lead at Morton Fraser, said: “Rowanmoor is a highly respected Sipp-provider in the UK and we’re thrilled to be appointed to provide legal advice in Scotland. We act for a large number of Sipp-providers and have seen significant growth in client demand for this specialist expertise over the past few years.

“Our team has over 15 years’ experience and prides itself on helping the industry and its members navigate the commercial real estate market.”

Lucy Matthews, managing director at Rowanmoor, said Morton Fraser’s knowledge of pensions and commercial property in Scotland “has been key in the appointment and we look forward to getting started with Fergus and his team”.

Morton Fraser says it can claim to be the oldest law firm in Scotland after its February 2013 merger with Macdonalds, which is able to trace its roots as far back as 1614.
