Motherwell Risk backfires

-

Motherwell’s preparation for the cup final started with a goalless draw at Ross County – fine – and two damaged bones – less than ideal. Prior to the Dingwall trip there had been debate on the merit of squad rotation to protect players, but a rough consensus agreed we should take the risk. A repeat of 2011 was to be avoided at all costs.

The early return on that gamble was dismal, with Andy Rose facing a race against time to make the final and Curtis Main facing the inconvenience of a damaged wrist, even if it seems he will be fit for the Hampden showpiece.

It leaves manager Stephen Robinson with a big choice in the coming games, particularly againstteamsgoinghellforleatherforsurvival.
