Scaredy cat

-

People who live with cats have long been aware that, whilst you can name a cat when it moves in, if it eventually tolerates you, it may deign to reveal its real and ineffable name.

Thus it is that, in the light of the recent conviction of Mark Meechan for the hate crime of uploading videos of his dog doing Nazi salutes (your report, 24 April), I am concerned for our ginger cat Orange B ***** d. Unlike dog owners, those of us who are kept by cats are not considered legally responsible for their actions, so it is he alone who may have to answer to the authorities for his choice of moniker.
