Hawkins still to hear from the Gold Coast organisers

“The fact is I didn’t feel it. So how are you supposed to make a judgment if you’re feeling normal? How do you make that adjustment? Something needs to be done to help athletes before they get to that stage.”

The Great Britain internatio­nal, who has confirmed he will not compete at this summer’s European Championsh­ips in Berlin, has been cleared to resume fitness work on a bike but is still hoping lessons can be learnt from his ordeal.

Scottish Athletics chief Mark Munro said: “We are making a joint submission to the Gold Coast Organising Committee with Commonweal­th Games Scotland.

“There are a number of key questions arising out of events on marathon day that we feel need to be addressed.”
