Kenny Macaskill reminds us of another likely outcome if the SNP ever get their way and break up the UK (“I didn’t mind the Queen’s ‘purring’ but Charles III should be our last monarch”, 26 April).

Like others in the SNP hierarchy, Mr Macaskill kept to the party line during the 2014 independen­ce referendum, suggesting the Queen would remain as Scotland’s monarch whilst knowing full well that the substantia­l republican element in the SNP would seeabolish­ingtheroya­lfamily as a next step after independen­ce.
