The war between the sexes is a perennial subject for drama but few writers have ever tackled it with such raw passion as August Strindberg, whose 19th century domestic dramas, from Miss Julie to The Father, fairly shake with fear of what women might do, given control of their own lives. Now the Lyceum revives artistic director David Greig’s 10 year-old version of the play, in a new production by explosively creative theatre-maker Stewart Laing, who both directs and designs. Expect beauty, cruelty, and a fierce deconstruction of masculinity, in a drama written in 1888, but full of sharp contemporary resonances. ■ Royal Lyceum, Edinburgh, until 12 May, 0131-248 4848
