Great Scott / Absent Brown wins player award

It was all about absent friends at the PFA Scotland awards dinner in Glasgow last night. Rangers and Hibernian had scheduled their own ceremonies for the same evening and did not attend while Celtic, who claimed three of the major prizes, took their players to Tenerife immediate - ly after their 5- 0 title- winning thrashing of Rangers at Parkhead.

Celtic captain Scott Brown won the Player of the Year award, while full- back Kieran Tierney claimed the Young Player award for an unpreceden­ted third year in a row.

Jack Ross, who saved St Mirren from relegation to the third tier last season then steered them to the Championsh­ip title this term, was voted Manager of the Year.

Of the other awards handed out at the Hilton hotel, St Mirren midfielder Morgan, who spent the second half of the season on loan from Celtic, was named Championsh­ip Player of the Year, Ayr United’s top scorer Lawrence Shankland won the League 1 award and Darren Smith, t he Stirling Albion forward, collected the League 2 gong. Tierney won the Goal of the Season award for his thumping longrange strike in Celtic’s Betfred Cup victory over Kilmarnock in August.
