Grange snatch title as Kelburne denied 20 seconds from time

HOCKEY: Grange were crowned first division champions when overnight leaders Bromac Kelburne were held to a 3- 3 lunchtime draw by second- bottom Uddingston, and David Knipe’s charges took advantage by thumping Inverleith 5- 0 to take the title on goal difference. Kelburne led 3- 2 with 20 seconds left and the title seemed to be heading to Paisley. But Steven Percy equalised, sending Scott Baird, Scottish Hockey’s board chairman, down the M8 with the silver ware. He arrived at Fettes at half- time to find Grange two up through Luke Cranney and Michael Mckenzie. James Nairn, Cammie Fraser and Callum Mckenzie added three more and Grange collected their first league title since 2002.

Edinburgh Universit y grasped their four th consecutiv­e women’s title, defeating Wildcats 3- 1 at Auchenhowi­e. Watsonians defeated Grange 3- 0.
