Wafer-thin views?
It seems that Roman Catholic church leaders are to meet the head of BBC Scotland, Donalda Mackinnon, to challenge a digital film about growing up gayinacatholicenvironment: Homophobia In 2018 – Time For Love.
The testimony of the young man involved included the comment that the communion host “tastes like cardboard and smells like hate”.
The Bishop of Paisley, John Keenan, claims this is “deeply insulting and offensive” and that Catholic views on sexuality are being “almost criminalised”.
Bishop Keenan should remember that violation of equality legislation and hate speech are indeed quite rightly criminalised. Furthermore, his indignation is rich coming from an institution which has campaigned polemically against marriage equality and described gay relationships as “perverted”.
