Green power agreements promised by Vattenfall

- By SCOTT REID

Businesses with a green conscience are being offered an opportunity to source renewable electricity from a wind farm in south-west Scotland.

Swedish energy group Vattenfall said business consumers would be able to purchase electricity from its onshore South Kyle Wind Farm via corporate power purchase agreements (PPAS).

In what is believed to be an industry first, the firm hopes to enable more businesses to secure green renewable electricity by offering the opportunity to buy the amount of electricity they want from as little as one megawatt.

Consultancy Mitie Energy started marketing the opportunity last month on behalf of the firm and is open to receive tenders until June.

Vattenfall said: “More businesses are starting to recognise the importance of taking a longer term approach to tackling climate change in both their operations and through their supply chains. Corporate PPAS can be part of the solution to fix all or part of their energy prices.”
