#MINIMUMPRICING

Minimum unit pricing for alcohol came into force yesterday after clearing its last legal hurdle, six years after MSPS first backed the Scottish Government idea. @Nicolasturgeon said: “Scotland becomes the first country in the world to implement minimum unit pricing in an attempt to reduce the significant harm of strong, low cost alcohol. Thanks to all those who have stuck with us through the challenges.” @masiavelli claimed: “Minimum unit pricing reeks of classism and it’s not going to achieve anything apart from leaving vulnerable people worse off ” @Snpchris commented; “Scotland sets a marker to the world with the introduction of minimum pricing for alcohol. Having sat on a licensing board for 5 years, this will save lives and improve communities across the country” @Sovereignannie said: “Minimum pricing isn’t about adults who would drink anyway. It’s about stopping teenagers from wrecking their health at pocket money prices before they’re old enough to understand they’ll suffer a lifetime of ill health”

#RANGERS

One of Scotland’s biggest football clubs parted company with its temporary first team manager yesterday after losing heavily to Glasgow rivals Celtic on Sunday. Former youth coach Graeme Murty had been in charge since the departure of Pedro Caixinha in October. @Bbctomenglish observed: “Rangers’ grand plan to replace an under20s coach with no previous managerial experience? An under-18s coach with no previous managerial experience.” @pieandbov commented: “Genuinely feel quite sorry for Graeme Murty. Twice thrust into a position that he was never qualified for, the second time inheriting an absolute shambles of a squad. Hung out to dry by the board of directors in last few weeks.” @mrewanmurray offered: “I see Graeme Murty now painted in many quarters as the bad guy. Typical of the Rangers blame culture: Mark Warburton, Derek Mcinnes, Pedro Caixinha. A useful deflection tactic.” @chris_sutton73 commented: “I feel sorry for Graeme Murty. He made mistakes but was the fall guy. Good luck to him in the future.”
