Mctominay the special one
Scotland midfielder Scott Mctominay has been hailed as Jose Mourinho’s special one – after landing the Manchester United manager’s player of the year award.
Mourinho singled out the 21-year-old Scot ahead of Nemanja Matic at the club’s prize-giving ceremony on Tuesday after hailing Mctominay’s meteoric rise from academy player to Champions League and international star.
Lancaster-born Mctominay, who chose Scotland – the country of his father’s birth – over England and made his debut in March’s defeattocostarica, hasbeen an integral part of Mourinho’s squad since December.
Mourinho said: “Scott is the one that did everything. He started the season in the academy and ends the season playing in big matches. So I thought this kid cannot go home without an award.”
Demi Mitchell, on loan at Hearts, was named United’s reserve team player of the year.
