Get organised

-

It is heartening to see that murdered MP Jo Cox’s sister, Kim Leadbeater, met Nicola Sturgeon and was welcomed to the Scottish Parliament, during her visit to Scotland to promote the Great Get Together on 22- 24 June ( your report, 3 May).

As Edinburgh Council is backing the Great Get Together, I hope it will have simplified its street closure process.

In our area, we held a Great Get Together last June, the anniversary of Jo Cox’s tragic death. We applied in good time for a street closure order. It was a tortuous process, involving contact with 14 different council officials.

We had to persevere as we were passed through the various departments, finally reaching the Director of Place! We received the necessary order and the actual arrangements on the day worked perfectly. But it was a struggle.
