Chieftains resist

-

With reference to Iain Morrison’ s Comment in Wednesday’s Sport section, Icanc onfirm that Currie Chieftains have found the SRU’S Super 6 decisions wholly unfathomable.

For a club which has been in the“top four” of theBT Premiership for the last four seasons, has a strong coaching and playing squad and which has produced more recent full- time professional players and age- group internationalists than almost anyone else, not to be awarded a Super 6 franchise is difficult to comprehend.

With three franchises allo - cat ed in Edinburgh, the demand for players to fulfil each franchise’s quota of 35 players will mean that our coaches and players will be on everyone’ s shopping list and we are naturally concerned about the long- term implications.

However, Iain is mistaken if he believes Currie Chieftains will sit back and watch its playing and coaching assets being poached. Acquiescence is not in Currie Chieftains nature.

The spirit that has dr iven the club from its modest beginnings 50 years ago will ensure that it fights tooth and nail to maintain its position as one of the best rugby clubs in Scotland.
