EDF Group pounces on giant wind farm project

A VAST offshore wind farm project in the Outer Forth Estuary that could eventually power hundreds of thousands of Scottish homes has changed hands.

Energy giant EDF Group has bought the Ne art na Gaoithe project from glo - bal wind and solar developer Mainstream Renewable Power, following a competitiv­e bidding process.

The wind farm will generate up to 450 megawatts of renewable energy, which is equivalent to the annual electricit­y provision of around 375,000 homes.

The total investment required to deliver the project is about £1.8 billion and commission­ing is planned for 2023.

ED F said the project would be open to other investors in due course.

Bruno Bensasson of EDF Group said :“This largescale new offshore project demonstrat­es our strong ambition in being a leading global player in the offshore wind industry.

“It confirms EDF Group’s wider commitment to renewable sin countries where EDF already has a strong foot print, such as the United Kingdom.”
