False disability claims leaves man facing jail

-

A man is facing jail after he admitted lying about a claim to be “severely” disabled to claim almost £10,000 in benefits.

James Kane, 66, from Dundee told officials at the Department for Work and Pensions that he had “severely restricted mobility and required assistance with care during the day”.

He was allowed to claim high rate Disability Living Allowance, but his disability was not nearly as severe as he claimed.

Kane pocketed £9,832.08 in total between 1 January 2015 and 4 April 4 last year. He pled guilty and will be sentenced on 30 May.
