Citizenship fears
Mark Openshaw (“SNP wrong to assume Windrush generation want to be Scottish, not British”, Letters, 4 May) need not worry about a threat to his British citizenship from the SNP, though I cannot offer any reassurance about what United Kingdom politicians may do.
It has long been SNP policy that those habitually resident in Scotland on “Independence Day” will be entitled to Scottish citizenship or, if they prefer, permanent residence here.
There is no suggestion of depriving anyone of other citizenships. Many of our current residents have both UK and Irish citizenship.
When I was an SNP parliamentary candidate in 1970 (Edinburgh South, for the UK parliament) I was glad to have my nomination papers signed
by Scottish residents of West Indian, Polish and English (among others) origins.

The letter from Mark Openshaw
(4 May) should be compulsory reading for every SNP member and follower.
Their fantasy world, where everyone in the world shares their ‘’Scotland-uk are totally different’’ line, is blasted wide
open and revealed as another example of blind and wishful thinking, at best.
Only nationalists see the lines of differentiation that is their life blood. The rest of us hold views similar to those of Mr Openshaw
