Scottish TV firm to set up Isle of Man base

- By PERRY GOURLEY

A Scottish internet-based television channel founded by singer Susan Boyle’s brother has announced plans to set up a production studio on the Isle of Man.

Internet World Television (IWT), which is based in Edinburgh, said it has joined forces with a number of other media companies for the proposed operation on the Isle of Man.

Gerry Boyle, who was behind a failed bid in 2013 to reopen the Clerk Street Odeon in Edinburgh as a cabaret venue, said the studio move came after “many years” of trying to find a suitable location in Scotland.

He said the studio will enable IWT and its partners to produce a range of online programmes which will be available to viewers via a dedicated website. Productions including a “through the keyhole” property show will invite viewers to take part by phone or text and IWT has teamed up with London-based communications firm Mediatel to work on them.

David Dorricott of AFD Software which owns the Isle of Man studios where the new operation will be based said: “The centre provides ideal production facilities for the exciting vision of IWT and we look forward to providing support to the group to bring this new TV channel to audiences around the world “

Boyle said other companies IWT is working on the project with include London-based Karma TV group and that he is also currently in discussion with other broadcasters, “to explore mutual co-production opportunities” for programmes to be initially broadcast in the UK and then offered for global distribution.
