City’s mayor beaten up after poll win
A German mayor had his tooth knocked out in an attack shortly after his surprise election victory.
Martin Horn was celebrating after defeating the long-serving mayor of Freiburg when a man hit him in the face on Sunday. The 33-year-old independent candidate had his nose broken and a tooth knocked out in the attack, and had to be treated in hospital. A 54-year-old man was arrested. Police investigating the unprovoked attack said the suspect has a background of psychiatric illness.
Defeated Green candidate Dieter Salomon was mayor of Freiburg for 16 years.
