Marching orders

Two minutes’ walk to Princes Street Gardens. Plenty room for pedestrians and deck chairs (and the grass is real ).

Gus Stewart I take it that they will have to display a parking ticket at £2.40 per hour to be fair on the motorist.

Norman Shedlock So unfair being a car! Pedestrians get all the fun!

Rachel Gray Humans who drive these cars have rights too, especially when you’re disabled. I’m fed-up with pedestrians and cyclists always thinking they are more important than us.

Heather Henderson I specifically come to Edinburgh for the traffic jams, poor air quality and the wonderful places I can dump my car. I can’t imagine why else someone would visit.

Robbie Craig All for this. The city has been far too car-friendly for too long. The air is ridiculously bad when there is no wind or it’s a hot day.

Bruce Sutherland There’s plenty of countryside in Scotland for people to live in and enjoy. Yet these groups complain endlessly about the relatively small areas that make up the towns and cities.

Francis Ferguson Let’s watch and see how they get all their deck chairs etc into Edinburgh. Surely they won’t use cars or vans?

Gavin Harper No problem at all, assuming they won’t mind a few more parking spaces in forest areas.

Ritchie Nicoll As much as a petrolhead as I am, I can appreciate the demise of the internal combustion engine is nigh. You won’t be able to buy a new car with a petrol or diesel engine in Scotland in less than 17 years+. As we head towards a greener planet, you will see councils around the world promoting walking, cycling or public transport. We could argue today, tomorrow and the next day about how little greenhouse gases from vehicles contribute to the world’s problems, but that’s another debate.the sooner drivers realise this is the direction we’re heading in, the better.

Sean Beveridge Great idea. Our city centre can be so much more than just somewhere to park cars and I hardly think that losing a few spaces for a few hours will cause road rage.

Hebry Whaley Stop wasting taxpayers’ money and taking up my car tax and insurance and MOT space.

Taylor Ian Fake grass? All that plastic? Doesn’t sound very friendly to the Earth to me.

Eileen Mcbride Can you bring your BBQ or are we restricted to a cold meat sandwich and a bottle of Buckfast?
