WHAT THEY SAID

-

On announcement of “ban” on October 3 last year Paul Wheelhouse said: “The Scottish Government will not support the development of unconventional oil and gas in Scotland.

“Having taken account of the interests of the environment, our economy, public health and the overwhelming majority of public opinion, the decision I am announcing today means fracking cannot and will not take place in Scotland.” Nicola Sturgeon at FMQS October 5 when challenged by Mark Ruskell – who suggested ban was not legally watertight – said: ”To some ears it will sound as though some members are dancing on the head of a pin here. Fracking is being banned in Scotland, end of story. There will be no fracking in Scotland. I don’t think that position could be any clearer.” From the SNP website: “Fracking, in addition to underground coal gasification, will have no place in Scotland’s energy mix.” Humza Yousaf at the SNP conference said: “For those particularly in the Tory party who say that by being so environmental we’re gonig to harm Scotland’s economy I have two words for you ‘Frack Off!’ Where the UK government is prepared to put at risk their communities and countryside from fracking the Scottish Government, your Scottish Government, will allow no such thing.”
