Green levies bill

-

I trust your readers noted that there was one piece of data missing from the letter from Councillor Audrey Doig (“Cracked ideas”, 8 May).

Had she read the letter by Celia Hobbs (“Thanks be to Rudd”, 2 May) then she would be aware of the annual £10 billion bill required to pay for the green levies given to the renewable sector.

It is important to recognise the subsidy provided to the Scottish economy when 92 per cent of the levy is paid by English consumers yet 50 per cent of renewables are in Scotland.

Audrey Doig also failed to point out that the demise of the UK grid means Scots will pay 50 per cent of the green levy which would add £2,000 a year to our energy bills. In addition, there is no mention of the policy to phase out the use of gas (4p per unit ) and replace with renewable electricity (16p per unit ).

The annual increase in energy costs of £10 billion means a further £4,000 increase in consumer bills to over £7,000 a year. What is her message to the 35 per cent of Scots living in fuel poverty ?

Is it any wonder that the Growth Report by Andrew Wilson has never seen the light of day when Scots will be unable to increase the economy as they struggle to avoid fuel penury arising from the subsidy costs of renewable electricity ?
