Climate change is now an unreasonin­g belief that overcomes all scientific rationale or proof to the contrary.

Right or wrong, it has become an accepted fact, so it pays to go along with it, because it can’t be suddenly disproved, so no risk attached. To go against it would be to invite peer group exclusion or worse.

As with the Salem witch trials, the intelligen­tsia knew that there was no such thing as a witch, but people believed in witches, so no point in trying to reverse the tide of opinion.

That way madness lies, of course, but anything for a quiet life.

Gamekeeper­s Road, Kinnesswoo­d Hawaii’s Kilauea volcano is yet another reminder – nature is unstoppabl­e and it will win in the long run. It also shows the of nature – even when it is rolling over our roads on it’s own path.

What is sad overall is that the damage we are doing to nature is more severe than anything it does to us.

Time to plant a tree and get a reusable coffee cup.
