Council tech man hired by Commsworld
Telecoms and broadband specialist Commsworld has scored a coup after hiring the City of Edinburgh Council’s head of information and communication technology (ICT) as its executive director of operations.
Bruce Strang is the latest industry “big-hitter” to join the board at Edinburgh-based Commsworld as it expands its range of services and footprint.
Last week, the firm announced the acquisition of ECS, previously known as Edinburgh Computer Services, in a move branded as a “significant step forward” for both businesses.
Commsworld was founded in 1994 and has offices in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen. It supports thousands of organisations, in both the public and private sectors, with their internet, data and voice communications.
Strang’s appointment comes hot on the heels of the recruitment of Steve Langmead and John Bennett as non-executive directors.
Strang
said: “The
stars seem to be aligning for Commsworld, as most competitors of a similar size have folded or been acquired.
“I know from my previous role the challenge that Commsworld faced in Edinburgh, but was deeply impressed with the delivery of the wide area network and the telephony product.”
Before joining the local authority, Strang climbed the ranks at outsourcing giant Capita, which included a role as managing director of Updata, taking responsibility for a team of 500 and accountable for financial results. 0 Bruce Strang is latest signing for the capital firm
