Elderly woman dies after being hit by car

An elderly woman has died after being struck by a car in Glasgow city centre.

Emergency services were called to the corner of Jamaica Street and Midland Street at about 1:15pm on Tuesday after reports a pedestrian was hit by a white Mercedes.

The 84-year-old was taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, where she later died.

Police Scotland have appealed for any witnesses to come forward.

Constable Elaine Scott said: “Jamaica Street was busy with members of the public at the time of the incident.”
