Men with Coconuts: Slamprov!
Today, 7pm, £8 (£5 concs) Like spoken word? Like comedy? Men With Coconuts present Slamprov, a blistering mix of poetry and improvisational comedy. Poets and storytellers (including Chris Mcqueer) join forces with Men With Coconuts, Scotland’s leading improv comedians. Poems and stories will be used as inspiration for completely improvised scenes, sketches and songs. Part slam, part comedy show, it’s sure to be as memorable as it will be unique.
Lord Fox: A Fable, with Music
31 May, 7pm, £12 (£10 concs) From songmaker Kirsty Law, author Kirsty Logan and contemporary harpist Esther Swift comes a dark and transporting new performance, Lord Fox. Inspired by the traditional tale of seduction, curiosity, violence and revenge, this show is a contemporary reimagining which combines storytelling, original song and contemporary composition. Join us on a dark journey that will leave you questioning the stories we are told.
An Afternoon with Hera Lindsay Bird
2 June, 2pm, £9 (£8 concs) Few new poets have had the impact that young New Zealand poet Hera Lindsay Bird has had over the past year. With subject matter as frank as her language, chains of brilliant imagery and humour, Bird’s debut collection was an international success – and now she’s coming to Edinburgh to discuss her poetry and to read it too. ■
