Man dies after coming off his bike

A 51-year-old man has died after being thrown from his motorbike.

Michael Smail, from Auldgirth, Dumfries and Galloway, was travelling south on the A702 when the accident happened at around 11.05am on Saturday.

Police Scotland said Mr Smail’s black BMW R1200 motorbike appeared to have lost control, causing him to be thrown to the ground. He sustained serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene in Elvanfoot, South Lanarkshire.

Several motorists stopped to offer assistance.
