Rugby player dies on Sri Lanka tour

A British rugby player has died on a tour of Sri Lanka.

A statement by Durham City Rugby Football Club read: “Whilst touring Sri Lanka two members of the party suffered non-rugby related breathing problems and were admitted to hospital. Subsequently, one of the two has died and one remains in hospital.”

The club was touring as Clem’s Pirates. The Foreign Office said it was assisting the families of both men. It is understood that the Foreign Office is also in contact with officials from the team.
