Ken Cox’s tips for May

-

As 2018 is a late spring there is still time to plant fruit bushes from raspberries to currants too Beware of cold winds and frosts, which can damage peas, beans and other tender vegetables. Keep them protected till the end of May with fleece if nights are cold Plant tomato plants, peppers, chillies, and aubergines in tunnels and greenhouses. (Chillies will also do well in containers.) Mound up potatoes as they come through. Sow salads in the ground as it warms up. Plant out brassicas. Protect them from pigeons with netting. Pigeons love uprooting cabbages.
