Di Antwoord It’s nothing that more gun control won’t solve.

Person 223 Unfortunately, gun control will not stop this. The guns these criminals are using are generally of Eastern European/balkan origin, all illegally imported and available on the black market. They’re unlikely to be using licensed shotguns or rifles, so tighter gun control will have no impact.

Scotsatsea Best way to fight crime is take the money out of it. Legalise and tax drugs.

Kampunghighlander Presumably you’d be happy to legalise child prostitution and human trafficking, too, based on that argument.

Norton Lux Easy cash and plenty of it with little chance of being caught. If they are caught, pathetic jail time reduced with “good behaviour”. No wonder it is on the rise.

banjulbert Should we really be using taxpayers’ money to line the pockets of private landlords, because that is what reading this articles seems to suggest. The problem is supply and demand, until that is addressed by the public sector looking to provide affordable public housing then the issue will continue.

Aristotle Right. The root of the problem is lack of housing. We need a situation where the renter is on an equal footing with the owner and that can only happen when there is (broadly) parity between the number of dwellings and the number of would-be tenants. It would be a good idea to look at how other European countries operate. Except that British politicians seem congenitally incapable of believing that anyone else has anything useful to teach them!

newminster Most Germans rent as house prices are way out of reach. Affordable housing, you need the deposit and a income of £27,000+ and that’s through a government ‘scheme’
