Candlelit tribute: Indonesians gather for vigil after suicide bombings
Indonesians gather in Jakarta for a candlelight vigil for the victims of a series of bomb attacks.
Indonesia’s elite anti-terrorist force Densus 88 conducted raids in the wake of suicide bombings as calls grow to pass a stalled security law.
At least 26 people were killed and dozens more injured in the multiple suicide bombings, the deadliest terrorist strike in Indonesia in more than a decade. Of those killed, 13 were the perpetrators.
The first attack targeted three churches early on Sunday morning. Later that evening there were multiple explosions in a flat in Sidoarjo, near Surabaya. The authorities believe the blasts were from bombs exploding prematurely.
