Nicola Sturgeon said the UK will prove it can’t be trusted with devolved powers after Brexit if it “carries on regardless” after the Scottish Parliament rejected crucial legislation, as she expected it to. @Mrgarypaterson posted: “Nobody can say they voted for Brexit to remove powers from the Scottish Parliament because that was never proposed or promised, nor was it warned as an outcome by the campaign against Brexit. This is pure opportunism from the Tories.” @Mhairihunter added: “If the Tories think there is already a single market in the UK why is this debate in the Scottish Parliament even happening?” @Robbie_castle tweeted: “Murdo Fraser using highly inflammatory language, slaughtering Labour and the Libdems for siding with the ‘Separatists.’ “Those said ‘Separatists’ are the elected government of Scotland, and are clearly attempting to safeguard the Scottish Parliament from a UK Power Grab.”

Edinburgh Council yesterday approved a new Gaelic Language Plan with the aim of increasing its use in the Lothians. @shellbryson said: “Excellent news. An important part of Scottish heritage, and a beautiful part of our culture that should be promoted. Such a good skill to have as a kid, too – growing up with multiple languages opens many learning doors.” @ukunionvoice added: “I do NOT pay my hardearned council tax for this... Especially when there are pot holes in the roads- everywhere! Gaelic was never spoken in the lowlands...”
#TOMMYBURNS
Yesterday was the anniversary of the death of Scotland and Celtic legend Tommy Burns. Players and fans took to Twitter to pay their tributes Former Celtic defender @odea_darren said: “I’ll say today is a day I’ll be thinking of Tommy Burns as it’s somehow been 10 years. But the truth is I think of him every day. I’ll not be sad at the time we’ve lost but rather be grateful for the time we had with one of the best.” Motherwell fan podcast @ Mfcpodcast86 added: “We sometimes get overconsumed by rivalry in football. Today marks the 10 year anniversary of Tommy Burns’ passing. With individuals like Tommy, Davie Cooper & Phil O’donnell, rivalry goes out the window – it’s all about respect for their outstanding contributions to the game.”
