Scots pay less for wedding essentials

Scots are paying half the amount Londoners splurge on a wedding venue, a report has claimed.

The typical Scot spends £1,572 on the place they get married, the second lowest in the UK, compared to £3,330 in London. Other items such as flowers, the amount spent on the bride’s dress and food and drink are also far cheaper north of the border, according to the survey by Lloyds Bank.

Couples planning to tie the knot in Scotland fork out a further £1,614 on food and drink for guests, while a typical wedding cake costs £234.20 and flowers cost an average of £322.

Robin Bulloch, managing director of Lloyds Bank, said: “Our research shows that UK consumers expect to spend close to £5,000 on just the wedding reception venue, and food and drink for guests.

“With so many other elements making up most people’s celebratio­ns, planning ahead and budgeting iskeytobei­ngabletoaf­ford your dream day.”

Meanwhile, when singletons were asked where they would like to tie the knot, 30 per cent said the UK countrysid­e, 18 per cent inauktowno­rcityand20 per cent wanted to get married abroad.

Those happily married were asked where they had got married, with two thirds holding the ceremony in a UK town or city, while 22 per cent settled on the countrysid­e and just 9 per cent chose somewhere outside of the UK.

The report found that the amount couples plan to pay for weddings has increased.

Facing average costs of £2,689 on their reception venue, and £2,014 on food and drink.
