New deal ties Guardiola to City for three more years

Pep Guardiol ahas committed to Manchester City for the next three years, the Premier League champions have announced.

The City manager has signed a two-year extension to his contract, which had one year left to run.

City had been keen to secure the former Barce - lona and Bayern Munich boss after he won the title with a record 100 points, as well as the Carabao Cup.

“I am so happy and excited. It’s a pleasure to be able to work here ,” said Guardio la .“I enjoy working with our players every day and we will try to do our best together in the coming years. As a manager, you have to feel good to be with the players – and I feel good.

“I will focus on the desire of my players to become a better team and every day that’s what I will try to do– to improve on the pitch and improve our players.

“We have a young squad with an average age of 23 and we want to keep taking steps forward and maintain the levels we’ve achieved this season.”

City scored a record 106 Premier League goals and won the title by its biggest margin, a 19- point advantage over second-placed Manchester United.

By the time Guardiola’s contract ends he will have spent five years in charge at the E ti had Stadium– longer than his tenures at the Nou Camp and Allianz Arena. This season’s Pre - mier League and League Cup wins have taken the number of trophies he has won as a manager to 23.

City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak said: “We are delighted to announce the extension of Pep’s contract through to 2021.

“In his two seasons with us, he has fostered an incredible spirit within the squad and sign i ficantly contribute­d to our progress both on and off the field.

“In doing so he has embodied the passion and commitment we all have for the club.

“I am very much looking forward to the conti nu ed impact of his work and to fulfilling our shared ambition sin the coming seasons.”
