Fracking silence

- ALLAN SUTHERLAND Willow Row, Stonehaven

In June 2016 the Scottish Parliament debated the motion “This parliament recognises that, to meet Scotland’s climate change goals and protect the environment, there must be an outright ban on fracking in Scotland.”

It was passed by 32 votes to 29 (Conservatives), with 62 abstentions, 61 of whom were SNP MSPS, including former and current Energy Ministers Fergus Ewing and Paul Wheelhouse, Fiona Hyslop, Jeane Freeman, Derek Mackay, John Swinney and – unbelievably – Nicola Sturgeon herself.

Two years later and two weeks since the “Alice In Wonderland” High Court fracking ban hearing and its wide coverage in the press, not one of these who voted against the motion or abstained has highlighted the “there was no ban” claim, Nicola Sturgeon has not given any explanation to the Scottish Parliament, and it has hardly been reported on the TV news channels.

Is there some reason this serious duplicity is not being communicated to the wider masses?
