Grange lose Euro opener

Grange lost 2-1 to Belarusians Stroitel Brest in their first pool match at the European Club Trophy in Vienna yesterday, writes Craig Madden.

The Scottish champions took the lead five minutes into the second half when Callum Mackenzie finished in style but Yauheni Stsepanets and Mickhail Paulovich scored to win it. Grange must beat Poznan, who lost 3-2 to the other Belarus side, Minsk, to have any chance of a good finish in the pool.

Meanwhile at Peffermill, Milne Craig Clydesdale Western had a 4-2 win over Gintra Strekte from Lithuania in the women’s Challenge 1 event. Hosts Edinburgh University later beat Russian champions Metrosroy 3-0.
