Family ‘experienced best and worst of humanity’

- By AASMA DAY

The father of the youngest person killed in the Manchester Arena bombing has called on Bono and Ed Sheeran to help him organise an annual benefit concert.

Saffie Roussos, eight, went to the Ariana Grande concert with her mother Lisa and her sister Ashlee Bromwich, both of whom suffered serious injuries. After the attack, Lisa woke from a coma to be told of her daughter’s death.

Andrew Roussos, 44, father to Saffie and son Xander, 12, said the outpouring of love from the community kept his family going in the wake of the atrocity, which claimed the lives of 22 people, including Barra teenager Eilidh Macleod.

Mr Roussos said: “We have seen the worst of human nature with what happened, but since then, we have seen the best of human nature.”

In the weeks that following the blast, the family’s chip shop in Lancashire became a sea of tributes to Saffie. The family has since moved away because the “memories would have been too painful”.

Now, Mr Roussos wants celebrities to back his call for a “modern-day Live Aid” to raise money for victims of terror.
