Lords reform
It was easy for Lesley Riddoch to criticise the House of Lords ( Scotsman, 21 May). However, she did not try the difficult task of suggesting how it would be reformed.
It is essential the House of Lords be independent of the political parties in the Commons. The Senate of Ireland is an interesting example where no one is elected politically. Instead each is chosen to represent different aspects of Irish life. In that sense the Senate is independent of political parties.
