Insist on majority

-

A tsunami of indifference – discounting the zealot fringe – has greeted the latest pronouncements from the SNP leadership. Yet another referendum initiative/campaign will be welcomed by the vast majority of Scots as they would a hole in the head.

There is an answer. Swift legislation could be passed, insisting on a two-thirds majority for any constitutional change, such as breaking up the UK – as it is in the USA and many other countries. A perfectly fair rider could be added that anyone not voting can be assumed to be in favour of the status quo.

This would end this now monumentally tedious “neverendum”’ fever being engineered at regular intervals by the nationalist leaders. All it does is discourage jobs and investment in our country. ALEXANDER MCKAY
