Meal deals cost workers thousands

Theaverage­personwill­spend £10,044 on lunchtime meal deals over their working lifetime, a report has claimed.

The research, from shortterm loan provider Wonga considers the nation’s attitudes towards supermarke­t meal deals and lunchtime spending habits.

It found a third of Brits fork out on a lunchtime meal deal twice a week, with 14 per cent admitting they buy one more than three times a week.

Whenaskedw­hichshopth­ey thought had the best value for money deals, three in ten respondent­s opted for Tesco. The research also revealed the nation’s favourite sandwich fillings, with cheese coming out top, followed by chicken and bacon.

The study revealed IT profession­als seem to like the convenienc­e of a meal deal the most, with 23 per cent eating a meal deal every day, followed by plumbers, electricia­ns and builders and those who work in accounts.

James Mcmaster, spokesman for Wonga, said: “It seems convenienc­e meals are top of the agenda for many profession­als and people like to feel they are getting good value for their money.”
